"Some individuals may experience their losing fight with gravity as a sharp pain in their back, others as the unflattering contour of their body, others as a constant fatigue, yet others as an unrelenting threatening environment. Those over forty may call it old age. And yet all these signals may be pointing to a single problem, so prominent in their own structure, and in the structure of others, that it has been ignored; they are off balance. They are at war with gravity."

Ida P. Rolf
1896 - 1979

Dr. Ida P. Rolf was a woman ahead of her time; she earned her PhD in biochemistry from Columbia University in 1920 and worked as a research scientist for Rockefeller Institute for 13 years.

She combined her scientific background and experiential knowledge to develop a system of hands-on body work, which she termed Structural Integration (SI).

Dr. Rolf dedicated the last 30 years of her life to the development and teaching of this method that evolved into an initial series of 10 sessions of manipulation, movement and sensorial education designed to bring the entire body into balance and vertical alignment with the field of gravity. She named that series of 10 sessions the “Recipe”.

The art of the “Recipe” is much more than to learn to follow a formula and perform a technique step by step. It includes principles and intentions that provide much more than just physical well being.  The client will feel emotional benefits, a greater awareness of his/her totality,  integration and personal power – a sensation that has been described as “waking up” or belonging to a greater reality.

The psychological effects of Dr. Rolf’s work have been recognized as a tool for the evolution of consciousness.  It is a process that supports and encourages both – the practitioner and the client – to follow their own paths of personal growth and development.
